Indications/Uses
Essential HTN & delays progression of renal disease for patients w/ HTN & type II DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial & maintenance dose: 150 mg once daily. May be increased to 300 mg or other antihypertensive agents can be added.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients who are vol- & Na-depleted by vigorous diuretic therapy, dietary salt restriction, diarrhea or vomiting. Renovascular HTN, renal impairment & kidney transplantation, aortic or mitral stenosis or obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Primary aldosteronism, hypertensive patients w/ type 2 DM & renal disease, hyperkalemia.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, fatigue, headache, flushing, nausea, vomiting, hyperkalemia.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics & other antihypertensive agents, K supplements & K-sparing diuretics, lithium, NSAIDs.
